My Reef Reached 49 Years Old This Week

When I moved here to this new house about 18 months ago I bought a new tank to replace my old one which was installed in a wall and I couldn't get it out. That tank was there, not leaking for about 40 years.

It was kind of scratched and I wanted to replace it anyway and it was just easier to buy this new tank, drag it out here the night before the move, then empty the old tank and put everything in tubs for the drive 60 miles here.

Everything made it with no losses. I used the same gravel. rock and everything else including about half the water. The rest of the water was just to muddy from the Reverse UG filter that was in there all those years.
Here my Son N law is helping me move by removing the UG filter. Notice the mud.

I bought this tank before the move.

I didn't have enough water so the day of the move I had to collect water.

Cool. Always wanted to try natural seawater but to nervous about pollutants.
That being said Paulie gave me the seahorses with water he collected, no side affects. Granted he collected miles off-shore.
I cut a small piece of gorgonian and placed in horse tank. That piece is doing better there than the parent in my reef.

I have been to areas where they collect fish. New Jersey is cleaner than some of those places many of which don't even have sewage facilities or ATM machines.

I have collected from Sandy Hook. Only bad thing about collecting there is having to walk 1/2 mile on sand carrying 5 gallon containers by myself to the car. Paul seems to have his car within a few feet of collection

One reason why I did not do it. The only other option is the marina but I would be concerned about oil or gas run off.

Don't you guys have any places on the ocean where you can bring a car?
You may have to move. :confused2:

Don't worry to much about oil and gas. Those things float so don't take the surface water. I just pump it into vats with a bilge pump.

I collect here, behind my house somewhat.

Sometimes it gets rough.
