New Clam

Just bought a Derasa clam today. I had one about 8 months ago but I think my tank was too young to really support it at only 4 months. Now that my tank is a year old I took the chance on one.

Just was looking for tips on getting it to survive. I have it sitting on the sand bed, with low flow overhead. I have my AI Sol's running at about 60% intensity so it shouldn't be shocked by intense lights. Additionally I feed my tank about twice a week with either reef roids, reef chili, Reef pearls.

Thanks for the advice.

I've had mine for almost two years. It grew from about 3" to around 6" in that time. No real special care for me. Mine is under MH and just sits on the sand. Just make sure it looks like it's expanding nice. Mine does move around until it finds a spot it likes, if I move it, it just moves back shortly after. Keep the levels good and it should thrive. They are one of the easier clams.

Thanks so much. It was opened up after an hour in my tank. Will post some pics over the weekend. I used to do 40gallons every 2 weeks but switches about 2 months ago to 20 gallons a week. Everything looks so much better with this schedule.

The new coral magazine has a huge article on clams, Trop has it and I am sure other stores has the issue as well. Good read overall.
