New shark species found off galapagos!

McCosker said the announcement is bittersweet.

Very interesting.

Id say the discovery is more bittersweet because they found a new species, killed it then put it in formaldehyde.

It is atleast refreshing that they did in fact discover a new species, if I remember correctly there was another species discovered that was though the be extinct not long ago.

Yes, i remember hearing about that. it is unfortunate that they had to kill it however im sure there are more, if the shark is 500meters down we dont often see them.

Cool stuff. I think you guys are misundertstanding something though... It said there were specimens of this species taken back in 1995 and 1998, and those were put in formaldehyde. It doesn't say whether they killed these newly collected specimens or not... and I'm guessing they didn't.

George, nothing new has been collected. Everything that was collected was collected in the mid 90's and preserved in formaldehyde. They are just getting around to publishing their findings from those earlier expeditions. All seven sharks collected in the mid 90's were sacrificed.
