New Sign-up Process

Hello all,

If you are registering a new account, it will now go to an admin to be approved before you can begin posting. This is a new measure we have put in place to stop the constant barrage of spam over the past week or so and hopefully it will be very effective. Around 25 people tried to join the site between midnight and eight am this morning and they were all spammers. Thankfully we were able to block them with the new process. If you have any questions or problems please drop us an e-mail.

Having manual approval may seem like a nuissance to the admin team, but in the end it will save countless hours of removing unrelated posts and / or spammers' accounts by the mods.

I think this was a great decision. 8)

And where do you expect us to get generic propecia from now?

I will whip up my own private batch of bathtub propecia just for you.

Yesterday alone there were 50 spammers that tried to sign up and like another 30 last night. Again if you have any problems please e-mail the officers and we can get it taken care of.

Gonna need some steroids too while you're at it.

Don't forget about the Canadian Viagra and XXX sites. ::) Don't people have better things to do with their time/life than spam web sites. Go find a cure for cancer or at least just try to make yourself useful to the rest of society. ::rant off::

How was this done before? It seamed to be free of them.

As we would ban people we would ban the IP, with a years worth of bans gone, those IPs are free to reign havoc. We would normally get maybe one spammer a day that we could easily recognize and ban before they posted. With 50 coming a day there are just too many, also they work around the clock so we were getting a lot of spam between 1-6 am when everyone on here is asleep. Hopefully we can catch back up rather quickly and turn this off, but as of right now this is the best process that we could come up with.

As an example to this, I have been trying to help out with the removal of these spammers. I went to bed at midnight last night and we had a clean slate, I woke up this morning and logged in at 7 and had 27 waiting to be approved or banned. That is just the start of the day! I try to pick these off a few at a time in between doing my day job (as others do). As we process one, two more may come in! It is a hassle and time consuming, but necessary to keep NJRC the place we all feel comfortable with.

Well, we all certainly appreciate all the hard work you all are putting into the site reconstruction and spammer control.

The last two posts by Don and Mike really made it clear just how bad this situation is. Good thing we have people doing this stuff in the background to make the rest of us as oblivious as possible. ;D

I never realized all the hard work that goes into keeping the site how it is. Thanks for all the hard work.
