NJ State Police ticketing...read to end

STATE POLICE - NJ TICKETING
Here's the latest NJ State Police Initiative. Radio station 101.5 confirmed
this information.

Starting today, New Jersey will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The
state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding
tickets. One million dollars will go to pay state troopers over-time.
There will be 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main
intersections and highways as follows: I-295 North and South
I-95 Jersey Turnpike North and South
I-80 East and West
I-287 North and South
I-78 East and West
I-195 East and West
I-280 East and West
Route 130 - North and South
Garden State Parkway - North and South

5 MPH above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is
supposed to pull a car over and
write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes.

They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are
bringing in all of their part-
timers on full time. If you work in NJ, NY DE or CT, you will probably be
on one of these highways.
So, please be on guard and drive safely!

Starting August 15 the price of a violation to show your driver's license,
registration or insurance card at the time you are stopped will increase
from $44.00 to $173.00. (Keep these documents in your car!) The fine for not
having all three documents is $519.00!!

The fine for hand-held cell phone use while driving will be going up to
$180.00.

BS

Police Departments do not enforce quotas. Its is unethical, you can not make an officer pull over people. It is at the officers discretion. There can be pressure to enforce the laws stricted but no quotas.

BTW. A group police departments in NJ recieved grant funding to enforce the click it or ticket program. It will helps to defray cost of having officers patrol and do stops.

Also this is the time of year when new Troopers graduate and begin doing Patrol.

The use of unmarked vehicles probably accounts for the beef up of officers due to Memorial Day Weekend. (I did see 4 trooper NOT NEW Older tan unmarked vehicles pulling people over in the 135 - 137 exit area over memorial day)

I saw a report on the news the other night about several NJ police departments instituting quotas to generate revenues lost to cuts in state funding. One of the depts names that I caught was Springfield NJ. Right or wrong it's happening.

Its BS.

It is a result of funding from either the state or Feds to enhance patrol during click it or ticket. Its not a quota, its stricet enforcement.

I have alot of close friends that are police and state troopers and I've from more than a few that there are no such thing as quotas.

The more tickets you give and the more arrests you make the more likely you are to move up in rankings and so on. It's all polotics. If you do well you get promoted. If you don't then you don't .. but there is nothing saying you have to arrest "X" amount or ticket "X" amount of people.

And anything you hear about giving tickets to raise revenue is exactly what Reefernets said, it's a program called click it or ticket, where departments recieve special funding during those periods.

Read what the Chief said we have no quotas.

Its the officers being forced to strictly enforce the law. The problem is that cops become lax sometimes and lay off issuing tickets. During summer months they become more strictly enforced because there is alot more people traveling.

I have never once since written down or laid out a plan to enforce quotas.

Guys. You's jinxed me. I recieved a ticket today because my trailer lights were out. He could have gave me 2 others but didn't.

UGH! Sorry to hear that, Mike! At least you "got away" with a couple!

There were two intersections that I drove through yesterday where there were 4 police standing in each intersection. I've never dropped my phone so fast ...

I almost crashed into a lady who was looking for her cell phone that she dropped after I swerved to avoid crashing into a trailer with no tail lights.

Luckily for me, the cop that saw the whole thing only gave the guy with the trailer a ticket because he only needed to write one more ticket for the month. Apparently the lady with the cell phone got off because she said she was a president of something or other.

Im not joking, police departments are recieving money to work overtime, not to enforce quotas. They tell them this what were looking to step up enforcement of. They are watching for all the small things that come with nice fines. phones, out lights, speeding, inspection sticker.

and using a blue tooth device is just as big of a distraction as holding the phone.

To tell you the truth this is what we get for not rasing tolls in NJ. The govt is forced to find other ways to find revenue.
