NJRC Donations

As some of you may know, last year the club made substantial donations to two different organizations because we wanted to help support their efforts of education and conservation. Those donations were:

- Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) - $5,000.00
- Rutgers University, Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS) - $1,000.00

These donations were made at the end of December and we are very happy to have had the opportunity to do our part in the community. Rutgers was very appreciative, as you can see by the letter they sent us.

On a side note - we were assured that our donation to Rutgers would specifically go towards funding of the IMCS Program and not just a general donation to the University. That means we will directly impact further education and research for the marine industry!

We also received a "package" from CRF... but it was shipped to our PO box. I have requested that the box be shipped to my house as that is the only option we have for anything other than a letter (you can scan the contents of a box :p). I will reply to this thread once I receive it and see what's in it.

Anyway, I just thought I would share that with the community since all of you were part of raising the money for these donations (through membership dues, frag swap attendance, etc). Thank you all for contributing to our efforts. Hopefully the club will continue to be able to make similar donations in the future.

I would like to thank George and everyone for this. It is awesome that the club can do this.

OK, I received the "box of goodies" from CRF. The box was actually just under 2 lbs, so I guess the estimate they gave me when I was ordering it to be shipped was wrong. Anyway, I was expecting maybe a hat or t-shirt or something since it was in a box... but here's what was actually in it:

A really nice wooden plaque to hang on the wall (unfortunately, the club doesn't have an office or anywhere to display this, but maybe we can setup some kind of display at the next frag swap with this along with all the donation letters?) I'll hold onto it for now, but I don't consider it mine or anything. Just not sure what to actually do with it. Anyway here it is:

Sorry for the glare from the flash, it was a quick phone pic. The wording is as follows:

RESTORATION SITE SPONSOR
NEW JERSEY REEFERS CLUB, INC.

in gratitude for your contributions
and support of coral restoration
2013

And another nice thank you letter:

There was also a brochure/pamphlet about CRF and what they do there and a small round bumper sticker. I didn't get pictures of those, sorry.

Anyway, there you have it folks. I know people are thanking me in this thread (which is appreciated) but again, the entire club deserves the thanks for all of this. Keep up the good work gang!

That was pretty cool. I think putting it up at the frag swap is a great Idea. May be we could get a good photo and put it on the home page for all to see.
