are there any NO3-PO4-X users on here? i have had a bottle lying around forever and i kind of wanted to use it just to get rid of it...

just pretty much looking for experiences, dosage amounts, pro/cons or whatever on it

Do you know your current phosphate and nitrate level. I know I didn't answer your question but helps to determine if you are a good candidate.

I'm not a NOPOX user, but have read a number of forum posts on it. It is simply carbon dosing of vodka and vinegar. You do need to be running a skimmer when using any form of carbon dosing. The one negative is that it could cause a bloom of unwanted bacteria. Best to start slow and then ramp it up. I can't remember your tank size....I want to say 30 gallons.....and if that's the case, I'd start with something around half an ml.

the main reason i picked it up (at the time) was that on the label it says it "Promotes coral growth and coloration" so i figured why not....and yes paul, my tank is about 34gal with the rear chamber included

it's literally just been sitting in my basement, just there. i believe i used it once....... i am now going to start cleaning out that room where my old tank was so something like this, id like to use before i toss it

I have just started using it a few weeks ago replacing a BP reactor, just so one fewer piece of equipment in the sump. So far the result is good.

Here's my method:

Do not use GFO as it's not only expensive but also makes things complicated. However you can leave your macros running.

Measure phosphate level before start dosing. Let's say you have 0.1, phosphate you can start with 2 ml/day per 100g. (alarmingly similar to Paul's recommendation). Check the phosphate level in a few days and ramp up the dosage as needed. Take it slow.

You will have excess phosphate relative to nitrate which means nitrate is depleted before phosphate. When this happens the phosphate can no longer be consumed. You will need to dose nitrate. I dose 0.5 ppm nitrate/ day from day one as I ramp up the NoPox dosage until my PO4 hit desired level. for example, 0.03. Then you can start measuring nitrate. And add/reduce nitrate dosage as needed.

now here is the big question, once and if i start this with the NO3-Po4-x, can i just just stop once the bottle is empty? will the sudden stop have an side affect?

You can make a copy very cheap out of a vodka vinegar mix as Paul stated. But yes you can just stop but your phosphates and nitrates will increase again. Do research on carbon dosing, the only purpose it to lower nitrate and phosphate, it is not anything magic to increase color.

Note Marcus that you will need to test for N and P while increasing doses....and once you get your N and P where you want them, that's your magic dose.

I'll also agree, once you stop, you will see N and P increasing. But again, a DIY vodka, vodka and vinegar, vodka vinegar and sugar, or just vinegar with keep those bacteria eating away and multiplying, consuming the N and P.
