Not looking good for reefers ...

Very interesting read - thank you for sharing. My fiancee works in the NICU and we have discussed this topic before. The equipment most hospitals carry at the level 3 or 4 units are incredible. I have seen first hand the healing capabilities these lights can provide and the modern science that goes into these machines are for lack of a better term, magic. In my opinion utilizing these lights while considering all side effects far outweigh the immediate alternative for that newborn, and if given the option of a decision I would assume that 99.9% of parents would opt to use them. As for adults, I believe that our bodies are developed enough for these lights to not have enough of an impact on health unless using them in weird or extreme ways.

The part that gets me though is the beginning of his statement here .. as well as the end.

" This is new data we have gotten over the last 30 years. Phototherapy induces isomerization of bilirubin rendering it extractable because it becomes water-soluble by altering the charge of the yellow pigment in the kidney's basement membrane allowing its easy clearance via the urine and hence it is used as a routine treatment of neonatal jaundice. What most people do not tell you is that pre-1950's full spectrum lights were used for jaundice and it was a more effective choice than today's blue lights. "

I am no expert on data parameters, but I think its safe to say that data from over 5 years ago is not necessarily new.. let alone 30. Also.. data from pre-1950's can not be anywhere close to the way we collect and interpret data today. Not to mention the lack of supporting he is referencing.

On top of all of this.. our aquariums love the blue light and we love our aquariums. Case closed for me!
