Don't know what this guy was up to but I actually saw this same kind of thing in Key Biscayne, Florida. A small octopus got caught in a tidal pool with the outgoing tide. We tried to pick it up, but it was like picking up a wad of greased Jell-O with tentacles, and we were afraid of getting bit by the beak, not to mention that it inked us. So we watched as it crawled out of the tidal pool, across a dry land area, back to open water.
