Call the ACUA @ 609-272-6950. They have days designated for hazardous materials. You'll need proof of residency when you go though.

Back in the day we started to collect bulbs at the monthly meetings and had a partner to recycle them for us. That company and contact is no longer in existance to help. I have collected a few times and brought to Depot, but they were not happy with it because of quantity. When I was elected and took office last month I reached out my local county recycle department to see if I could continue to collect and bring to the local recycling facility to make it easier on members. Here is the reply I received:
Hello Mr. Shearer – The collection of compact fluorescent bulbs is best left to the experts because the bulbs are easily broken and hazardous. http://www.epa.gov/cfl/ Home Depot and Lowes are equipped with stations to accept these bulbs from individuals but not in quantities. Burlington County Residents can also bring compact fluorescent bulbs and the long tubular style that are not accepted at Home Depot and Lowes, to the County Hazardous Waste Facility within the Resource Recovery Complex on Rt. 543 in Florence/Mansfield Twps. during hours of operation Tuesday-Friday 7am-3pm and Saturday 7am-2pm. 609-499-5200. Small businesses are charged a fee.
The NJ Department of Environmental Protection Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste maintains a list of approved companies that handle these bulbs in larger quantities http://www.nj.gov/dep/dshw/lrm/uwaste/ucomplist.htm

Educating the public through your 400 club members to recycle these bulbs properly and make sure they stay out of the landfills and incinerators would fall in nicely with your mission on education and conservation. I’ve attached a flyer we use educate residents and the Environmental Protection Agency website link should be a good source of information as well. Thank you for contacting us.

I am still looking into options as a club, but not much more info than posted above. I would imagine every county accepts them, the problem is getting them there during business hours!

Please make the effort to have them recycled, when I realized how many members we have and how may bulbs each has to replace often, the numbers could be staggering! And that's just thinking about NJRC!

Don, I think we should start by going thru the list in That Last Link they provided and find the closest one that accepts PC bulbs... then contact them to find out if they would accept them from us (being an 501c3 corp) for free.
