Nicole and I just got back from Aruba where for the first time we went Scuba diving. We have been snorkeling, SNUBA, and we finally took the plunge (HA) and did a dive. I took a look at trip advisor and orginally was looking for SNUBA but only found one and it did not look great. However, I found a person who was very highly rated and offered first timers a diving course followed by a beginner dive. We said what the heck and went for it and it was amazing. Looks like we will be getting certified soon. This dive was essentially the first part of getting PADI certified (as the emails have led me to belive) and we will probably finish it up here in Jersey so we can hit the reefs when we travel again.

The experience was great and our dive master had a camera and took a bunch of pics (free of charge) so we could just dive and have fun. He also knew exactly where to get good pictures and find cool stuff. The only thing he did not get a good picture of was a colony of pearly headed jawfish which was really cool to see.

So as we always say, This Thread is Worthless Without Pics:

We walked into the water through a little mangrove forest:

We learned the basics in about chest deep water where we found this little guy:

Big hermit:

Atlantic blue tang:

I love Aruba!
Where did you guys stay. It is my favorite Caribbean Island!

I am going to Turks and Caicos NEXT SUMMER. I am going to get SCUB Cert before I go there. I will be able to dive 2x a day there for free :)

Nice pics BTW.

The target of the dive was a little ship wreck that was about 40 feet deep. We got a bunch of people here:

Awesome! Glad you guys got a chance to try SCUBA. You saw a seahorse on your first dive? Very lucky!

Cool looking sponges but that's a strange looking blue tang! :p I think you put the wrong link in there Mike.

PS, Nikki already looks like a pro.

*EDIT* OK, apparently during my post you added a few more. Wow, some really great shots and you gots got to see some really great critters.

Thanks guys.
Keep in mind that we took none of those photos- the diver master took every one of them.
We did however have a fantastic time.
My favorites were the colony of peterson's anem shrimp and the cowries.

Now that looks like a lot more fun than the tea cup ride my daughter has had me on all week at Disney! It must have been a great time .

Looks great, those pictures are great. I miss scuba diving, haven't for years. Next week we are taking the kids to Disney World but are spending a day at Discovery Cove. Dolphins, Rays, and a living reef, all for you to snorkel with. Considering my boys are only 9 and 7 this is a great first time exposure to this type of stuff.
