ORP/pH/Temp Probe Placement

I was talking to Andy about my inability to get my ORP up over 310 at the holiday party. He mentioned that all three probes needed to be within 3 inches of each other. I did some checking and that seems to be the case (something about the temp probe being the ground for the other two). The question I have is, do all three probes have to be in the SAME water source? More specifically, my pH probe is in a cup in my sump that monitors the efluent flow from my Ca reactor. Can I put the temp and ORP probe in the sump right next to this cup? or do all three have to be in the cup?

Any insight would be appreciated.

TIA.

Thanks a lot for the info, Mike. Unfortunately I don't have it connected to a PC so that's probably not my problem. I haven't really gotten much of response to my post on the Neptune forum over on RC so I'm still trying to figure this one out on my own.

I was experimenting with the putting the probes in different locations and realized that the ORP reading is defintely tied to the pH reading. When my pH probe is in the effluent cup, my pH is around 6.5 and my ORP is around 310. If I move the pH probe into the sump where the pH is around 8.0, the ORP jumps up to 385. I'm assuming that the 385 is probably the "true" number but I'm not sure.

Thanks again for the info.
