Over flow into sump

I am replacing my diy sump for the trigger sapphire 34 sump. The new sump has two 1 inch inlets. My tank has one 1 1/2 inch drain from display tank. My question is do I reduce the 1 1/2 pipe coming into sump to go into one or both 1 inch inlets. I don’t know if by reducing and spitting into 2 I would get the same volume of water. The other parts is do I even need to worry how much water comes into the sump.

If the sump has a bulkhead, you might be able to remove it and run the pipe down through the hole to about 1" below water level. The pipe must drain more water that the return pump. I believe you can find an on-line calculator for the max (non-syphon) flow you can expect. I wouldn't convert it to a syphon drain with a gate valve unless you had an emergency drain.

You can reduce it. I did it with my trigger system emerald 26 went from 1 1/2 to 1 inch with no problems on my 38 gallon.
