Ozone Use?

What is the BEST way to use ozone? Through my skimmer or through an ozone reactor? What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?

What kind of skimmer do you have? Not all of them are able to handle ozone. We have an MRC and it is ok, but the ozone port they gave us with the unit melted! We had to replace the fitting with an ozone safe fitting (why they would send it with a fitting not fit for ozone when that was the purpose of the port is beyond me).

We ran it for a very short time before shutting it down, so I can't really comment much more on that. I know we've got a few ozone users (past or present) so hopefully one of them can help you.

The skimmer will be a Deltec AP851. I don't want to mess that up. But a good reactor is 375. Just want to know my options.

imo, ozone is not worth the risks and headaches (literally). If the system is large and heavily stocked than go for it. I ran it on my system for about a month and didnt notice any difference other than the smell in the house.

I've always been a big Ozone user and love it. I've ran them with both reactors and skimmers and couldn't really tell the difference. I sold my reactor to make more room and felt I didn't need it anyway. I now just run it through one of my skimmers.

If you're worried about messing up a good skimmer (highly unlikely) just pickup a small "throw away" skimmer like a seaclone and use that for running ozone. I've ran 200mg of ozone through a seaclone 150 for over a year with no problems. I now have a much larger unit and just run it through a skimmer I made from PVC parts and it works just fine that way.

Carlo, I thought about a cheap skimmer, sounds good. What about the exiting water and air do they really need to be run through carbon?
