any suggestions? anyone have one in a reef setup? at saltwaterfish.com states not reef safe but i want to see if anyone has had any success with this particular butterfly.
Reef safe on their page can refer to a lot of things. The pearlscale is reported to be the safest butterfly as it has no coral in its diet. It may eat very small ornamental shrimp (ie sexy shrimp). I don't have experience with this guy as he's not as common as some of the others. It should be fairly cheap as it is not as brightly colored as some of the other butterflies. They are one of the hardiest butterflies though so it can be a good choice over say, the raccoon if you want to attempt in a reef.
Don't do it! Especially if you ever want to put a clam in your tank, as they LOVE clams. From everything I've read, they can be kept with more "noxious" corals, like leathers, mushrooms, but it's best avoided for the reef tank.
