Phosphate removal media question

Guys, when i throw a sack in my sump how long does it last? I know that it says that it should be removed when results have been achieved, but who actually follows the instructions? I figured it was good for a couple of Mos. Min (depending on your levels).

What do you guys do?

I'm using Seachem Phosguard. As allways my test shows "zero" for P04 but I learned not to trust the chemical tests.

Thanks,

Erik

i imagine if using a phosban reactor the media takes 3 months or so - then similarly that would apply to just a bag tossed in the sump. Mind you unless the water is somehow actively pushed thru the media - it's not going to help you a whole lot if the water just flows around the bag...since eventually detris and what not will clog the bag and it just doesn't perform the job as well...have you considered one of those reactors?

I did. I can probably make something out of PVC and attach a powerhead to serve the same purpose.
I currently have the sack positioned in my return pump chamber a few inches away from the pumps inlet.

It's my understanding that the media can be recharged with very hot water. Any truth to this?

I know,I know, next time I'll start a more exciting topic...

I never tried to recharge mine. It's eaiser and cheaper to buy it in bulk when NJRC has a groupe buy on it.

I have not previously heard of this. Can you give us more information? Perhaps a web link?
