panmanmatt said:Yes you can. Folks use that instead of buying the Kalkwasser powder. It's the same stuff just a heck of a lot cheaper.

Hey John, could you elaborate a bit more on what you mean by you didn't like the results?
Nothing really to add, but just curious as to what you observed,

I don't have anything scientific; all I have is my observations. The first this is that the ESV seems to go into solution a lot better. When we use it, and it runs low, it all gets used up. With the Mrs. Wages, it seems to get to a point where there is a portion on the bottom that just doesn't mix up. In fact, at one point we added some ESV on top of the Mrs. Wages stuff and the ESV kept being used up and Mrs. Wages just laid there on the bottom. The way we could tell the difference is that the ESV is a bright pure white color, while the Mrs. Wages is a light beige color. From a result standpoint, our pH is adjusted much higher (and subsequently into the proper range) using the ESV. With the Mrs. Wages, our pH never really climbed up to where we wanted it. Also, and I have no idea why this is, our mg levels stay at a nice, high level using the ESV. If anyone knows our system, they know that we continually fight low mg, probably as a result of all of the LPS we keep. The Mrs. Wages didn't have nearly the impact on our mg levels. Again, I have no idea why the ESV would have such an impact on mg but it appeared to. It would be a heck of a coincidence to think that we ran low mg for 3.5 years and then all of sudden it jumped up right around the same time we started using the ESV. And then dropped off with the Mrs. Wages. And then came back up with the ESV!
Anyway, like I said, I have absolutely no scientific proof or explanation for any of this; it's just what we observed.
