Placing clam under MH

Can I place my 3" clam underneath a 150 watt MH? I don't like to see it on the bottom of the tank. My MH sits 26" from the bottom of the tank. I would like to place the clam 16" up from the bottom of the tank. The problem is that, the only open space that I have is right underneath the MH. I don't want it to loose its color or burn it.

yes you can , is not going to lose the color or anything is going to happen to it , they love all the light you can give it .

It depends on the type of clam you have. If it's a Crocea or Maxima you want it high up in the rock work. If it's a Derasa or Squmosa you want it down at the sand level.

Generally once you place a clam you should consider it permanent. If you know you will need to move the clam then do yourself a favor and place it on a small rock that you can move along with the clam. Same with those at the sand bed. Place them on a large frag plug or similar instead of directly on the sand bed. Otherwise they will bore through the sand and attach directly to the bottom glass.

If you ever get a gigas, crocea or maxima that's brownish in color on the mantle it's been deprived of light and will need to be started lower in the tank and moved up slowly.

Derasa and Squamosa are the easiest to keep. You almost have to try hard to kill a Squamosa.
