plexi baffles on a glass tank?

ive heard mixed opinions on this, can i use 1/4" plexiglass baffles on a 20g long tank for my sump? if not what kinda baffles do i need?

I know most people go against using plexi on glass tanks but I did. I made my first 10G sump and using plexi was very easy and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in. Good luck!

as long as u put enough silicone u wont have a problem
i have done many sumps this way & it works great.
here is a baffle i put along the back for a refugium
it is still holding strong.

The problem is that silicone does not bond to plexi. But, if you use a generous amount of silicone it will act as a wedge and hold the plexi in place. I used it in a 20 long as well and it worked just fine.

Here is a link to wetwebmedia forum that might help you: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Baffles/baffles.htm

I did this and it works great. It is nice to be able to remove the baffles when I am pulling the skimmer to clean it or changing the filter sock on my overflow outlet. Here are some pictures of mine. I have since added a third baffle in order to control bubbles coming from the skimmer. I used some pieces of acrylic to support the final baffle where the return pump is because the water pressure will push it over.

The only thing I ran into with plexi is make sure it is thick enough to keep from bowing. The bowing will pull it away from the silicon wedge.

If its any help, I found that a local glass shop cut the pieces I needed out of glass for a 20 long sump (4 total pieces) for less than $10, and they cut it the exact sizes I needed. Been holding in place with minimal silicon for more than 2 years now.

Here's a pic of mine ....
Used a 10 Gallon and just bought a thick sheet of acrylic from home depot...
Cut em to size and siliconed em in holds great and works wonderful!!!
The Thicker the better with the baffels though...
I thick the total cost for the tank/ Acrylic sheet/ and silicone was like 30 bucks...
