PO4 - That topic again

I'm battling a little hair algae so I'm back on this PO4 kick. I suspected my phosphate was coming from my Calcium Reactor effluent. Checking it with the Hanna meter I got 0.02. So I guess I was wrong. The display tank is reading 0.04 PO4. I checked the RO/DI water I use for top off and mixing new SW and I got 0.07. I wasn't happy about that. I have their MAXCap D2 after my RO. MAXCap D2 is a DI resin followed by a Silica Buster. I called Spectrapure and the Scott there was suspect of my testing method. He suggested I get DISTILLED WATER from the grocery store. He said it is almost as good as deionized water and should not have any PO4 in it. He wanted to be sure my test method does not exhibit a residual of .07, even in water we know to be pure.

So, I did that. I got the distilled water and got the following results:

TDS: 000
PO4: 0.04

What up with that! According to Spectrapure, the distilled water should have no PO4 in it. Should I get on the phone with Hanna? Any thoughts?

Your Hanna meter has a +/- .0something margin of error. You might just be seeing that?

That's possible. I email Scott at Spectrapure. Hopefully he'll get back to me. I'll let you know what he says.
