We were using an ETSS downdraft skimmer and it NEVER skimmed for us. It either wet skimmed like crazy or produced nothing. Sorry. Wish I could be more help, but I ended up replacing it instead. Good luck!

i bought a used one ETSS 800

it works great...  just like Phyl said it was skimmed like crazy, and I have to use paper towel to shut/blocked both air valves to make it working right...  just a pain to clean the inside chamber though...

in your case:
- may be the size of the pump?
- or may be it is like what you said - a Prototype?  (sorry, i know this is not funny, but...)

why not check with "Gary at ETSS"? may be he save some idea/input?

Holly non-skimming paperweight batfishman!!!! Wouldn't say that's a strong selling point IMO.

Gary at ETSS told me to raise the skimmer higher in my sump. Because the blue line pump is max size pump and it has Out standing pressure. So I raised it and it is not flooding out and now I am able to adjust the gate valve. So i hope I can get it dialed in very soon.

I have an ETSS 900 skimmer (60" tall) and I like it except for the noise. But like Phyl some days it skims alot others not at all. I just set it and forget about it. I've heard that putting a valve on the air intake will help when trying to fine tune it.

saltwater4life I will see if better tomorrow.

Jcurry@wesketch Gary said if I need to put valve on the air intake to help when trying to fine tune it is not good. Because you are cutting back on the air flow. A ball valve in the out let of the pump to the skimmer is better and just raise the skimmer a little bit. I have a ball valve to put in but I raised the skimmer first and it is not flooding out. I hope this works or gary will get this skimmer back soon!!!

Does this skimmer utilize the beckett technology or is it the one that slams the water thru bioballs. If it has a beckett valve, turn down the air intake. make sure the bubbles are TINY. and if there are too many big bubbles kind of "burping" to the top, that will wreck the reaction as well. break in period should be over, it is only a slime coating that is needed.
good luck.
