Do you have a cover on your tank? The firefish is a leaper and with the damsels already being established it may get chased.

yea it is covered and the damsels i am planning on getting rid of soon b/c they are very agressive but wen i put him in he just was swimming back and forth and he found a small hiding spot under a rock where nothing else can come close to it. i let him in like 30 mins ago and i have a 55gallon tank w/ lots of live rock

Hey is there a type of fish/ invertebrate that will get rid of the calcium building on the walls?

You need to clean the tank walls yourself. Look for a mag float with a ReefGadget on it.

Pull the chocolate chip star out, they will eat corals and are not reef safe at all. I have not heard of calcium builing on walls but if you have a glass tank get a scraper.

choc. starfish will def eat corals, and i would def pull the damsels out they are very aggressive and only get worse the longer their in a tank and establish territory.

If the damsels haven't gone after the fire fish yet he's probably ok. But the damsels will out compete the fire fish for food. Also the lawnmower blennies may eat some corals such as SPS & LPS or brain corals.

I'm out of timeout. ;D

Repeat after me:

"Research first, then buy livestock."

Purple firefish are great fish, fantastic jumpers and on the shy side. And when chased they'll find any open hole in your cover so be careful.

By calcium building on the walls, do you mean coralline algae which is predominately calcium. I believe the various types of sea urchins will eat coralline, but on the rocks as well. Best bet is do a search on Reef Gadgets.

How old is the tank? Scooter Blennies are a lot like mandarins and need a good pod population to graze on. They can learn to eat other foods, but very often they slowly starve to death.

Can you post a pick of the calcium on your tank walls? I have tiny feather dusters that spawn in my tank that settle and grow EVERYWHERE including the glass. they start by looking like little white dots, then gradually you can see the pretty red crowns on them. You may have something similar if the deposits on your glass are white, grab yourself a magnifying glass.
Good luck, we all go through things like this when we first start tanks, and while I very much agree with research-then-buy, I have made impulse buys in the past as well.

I figured out they are tube worms by now and this thread is easily 3 months old so mods you can lock this and throw it away

Thanks
