Put dog down :/

Today is probably one of the hardest days of my life. At 11:30 AM I had to put my 11 year old golden retriever Rocky to sleep. He wasn't just a dog, he was like a kid to me and a best friend and he will be missed. He suffered from internal organ failure and a infection that overran his body. RIP Rocky

If anyone knows a breeder for a golden or knows anyone giving away puppies please let me know. I don't think I will be able to continue without having a dog by my side to remind me of Rocky and that companionship.

Sorry to hear that Brandon! :-\

Its been over three years since I went through it with my 17/1/2 yr old dog, and we are just not ready to jump into having another dog even still. Our English Springer was my wife and my first child. She litterally raised our kids! It's a huge loss for you!

Wow Bud sorry to hear I know what yr going thru we just lost our dog a few mnths back.I'll keep my eyes/ears posted if a golden comes along..

Thanks guys,

He was my first dog ever and I don't want to rush in to getting another dog, but I feel like I lost a piece of me. This guy was like family and watched me grow up from 8th grade - graduating with my MBA.

I am still a bit of a mess and definitely don't feel like a 24 year old man, but as time goes on I hope it will get easier.

:sigh: I'm trying to watch movies to help me relax, but all I keep doing is picturing him on the bed right when they put him down.

just keep reminding yourself of all the years the two of you enriched eachothers lives. i know the feeling, my dog is my first child. you will feel better in time. don't try to rush it.

all dogs go to heaven. sorry for your loss.. my quaker parrot Frenchie is such a character and part of the family i would be very sad to have her leave us.

Sorry for your loss Brandon. He was a good boy. I feel your pain. We had to say goodbye to our two "kids" a couple years ago and we still miss them and think of them often. So very hard to let them go.

Sorry for your loss Brandon. That's one of the hardest things to do in life. The only time I ever saw my father cry was the day he put his dog down. I was such a mess when I put my 18 yr old cat down the vet actually sent me a card hoping I was doing better.
I would recommend waiting a while before getting another dog. You can never replace Rocky and it's probably best to finish greiving for him before looking for another pet. I know I'm glad we waited a few years before getting our new puppy.

I adopted this guy today - he is 8 weeks old and came from a litter in Kentucky. He is a black lab and I named him Lucky since he was saved from being put down and I'm lucky to have him

Black Labs are really fun dogs! Do you have a lake or pond near you? They will swim for days if you let them! Congrats, I hope you're feeling a little better now!

Cousin has a pool and there is a stream/creek by me. He's only 8 weeks old though so it'll be a bit before he's swimming off leash. And yes I'm feeling better about the loss of Rocky.

Its hard, because pets are just like members of the family. Even thought my dogs are a pain in the A$$ at times, I am sure when the day comes I have to put them down I will cry like a baby. The part I don't think I will do is get another one. As hard as it is we always seem to want to put ourselves thru it again by getting another animal. Time will tell if I can keep from getting another dog......

I am really sorry and I sympathize with you. Ive been there twice in the past few years. I lost two basset hounds due to cancer. To this day I think of them, I miss them alot. I have since adopted two more basset's, but it still hurts. Sorry for your loss. I am sure you gave Rocky a great life!!!

Ahh sorry to hear. That is awesome you adopted though! So many dogs need homes it's really sad. When I make my first million I'm going to buy a bunch of land and rescue some.
