One of the online subscription services sent an article on making your own about three weeks ago. They were sourcing the felt from Joann's fabric. It sparked a discussion about knowing whether or not the polyester felt was treated flame retardants and whether it would affect your live stock.

Mark where did you source the felt from? I could use a few more socks.

Yes Joanns. Its eco-felt made from recycled plastic bottles and no bph. Been running on my tank for a couple of weeks with no problems. The have a pro-felt that is treated with copper ions that you can't use of course. Its not flame resistant, so no smoking when you change your socks...

Thanks for the heads up, I'd hate to see someone ruin their tank to save a couple of bucks.

If you want it done right you have to do it yourself (or your spouse).

Do you wash and re-use or just throw them out? Like the felt ones just a royal pain to wash.

I've rewash mine a couple of times by hand then toss them, but the ones we make are cheap enough to throw out. These socks do clog quicker than the heavier socks though. But seem to pick up everything.
