my dog gets allergies in the fall and I usually give him Benadryl, per the Vet. But this year he seems very itchy and scratching his eyes. I just noticed that around his eye, the fur area, is very irritated and red. Is there anything I can put on it? I was thinking maybe oatmeal ointment.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

Use the Benadryl and go to pet smart they have eye wipes to help with the irritation. It'll be in the skin care department, I just saw it while there. My pup has itchy red eyes too, but seems to be doing better.

i didn't even know dogs could get benadryl!!! I recall the days when that was a prescription only med!!!! these days you can get the stuff over the counter for adults or kids. 'course i took so much of it my body is probably immune to the stuff. :miserable:

I've seen many cases when dog allergies (including my English Cocker spaniel) were corrected with proper diet.
When we got him from shelter he was 8 years old, overweight and covered with sores.
My wife found proper food for him and in about 6 months he lost weight, likes to run, skin is clear and he behaves like much younger dog.
Please do research and find appropriate food for the breed and age.
