My sand dollar died last month. I went out to Something Fishy this past weekend to get another. To my surprise, they had one. (It never showed up on their web inventory.) They'd had it for a year, and kept moving it from a sand bottom invert tank to another invert sand bottom tank to keep it going. I told the sales lady that mine had just died, and that I'd had it for years and years. During that time, it ceaselessly traveled from one end of my 180 to the other end and back again. It did a great job keeping the surface of my DSB clean.
Cleaning out my desk yesterday, I found the receipt for the original one. It is dated 11/15/2012. Who'd a thunk a sand dollar could last 12 years in a reef tank?
