Refractometer

Hi Reefers!

I have an Instant Ocean Hydrometer and got another brand free with purchase at Dr Foster & Smith. So, figured it would be fun to test the readings. Seems like one of them is off. When the IO one reads 1.026, the other is way over 1.035. So I have a calibration issue and no real way of testing to see which is right. I continue to use my IO one, since I have been having no issues with the water I make using it.

Since the holidays are coming up, I thought it might be a nice gift for myself to by a refractometer. Looking at the various Pet Shop sites, they seem to range from $40 to over $90, plus shipping. Good old Ebay is showing a nice looking one for $25, including shipping and the seller says they have sold thousands of them. But what can you really tell from a picture and a self-serving item description?

Looking for my fellow NJ reefers to help decide - - pay one of the retail sites full price or is the Ebay one good enough? Or do you have another suggestion - maybe someone has an extra they want to sell?

Thanks!

I love it and super fast and accurate. I think I spent less than $100 shipped for it.[/QUOTE]

plus 1 on the Milwaukee

Take the money you'll spend on the refractometer apply it to the Milwaukee, you just saved yourself some money in the long run.

I have the Milwaukee and will not look back, super easy and fast.
