Refrigerator Water Line Filtration

Is there a reason you should not use a carbon media reactor for your refrigerator water line?

Several of the water filters I have seen for the refrigerator seem to basically be a carbon filtration.

No reason really. Most refrigerator filters are carbon for taste and odor. They are only about $14 every 6 months, but if you hook up a canister with a solid carbon block filter you would get a lot longer life out of it but you are going to spend more money.

I thought it might actually be cheaper in the long run, but I guess not.

Anyone know where I can find local refrigerator filters?

I checked HD, Lowes, Walmart, and Target, but I mostly struck out.

check with barton supply for the inline style $14 plus tax. All Brand Appliance has the in refrigerator cartridges if that is what you are looking for.
