Research on PVC

I was reading a article a while back and the reason we cannot use PVC as drinking water pipe because it leaches and has harmful elements that causes cancer. I was just wondering would this too have an affect on you marine fish as well I don't think there has been a study but curious on anybody's thoughts .

Rigid PVC, which is PVC pipe, is not a problem as far as "harmful elements." "Soft" PVC has to have plasticizers, which have been know to leach, with some being problematic.

And PVC, code permitting, can be used for water....OR CPVC. However, you will see more and more use of PEX (Cross linked polyethylene) being used with new house construction. With the cost of copper....the time and manpower to sweat joints....and with PEX just being drawn through the house like electrical cable....it's the future.

To answer your question about affect (effect) on marine fish......No problem. I'd be more concerned about what is leaching out of the plastic stuff coming out of China!

This true but you don't plumb with cpvc we use PVC for our tanks

PVC is safe of our tanks. It has no plastisizers, so there in nothing to leach out of it (unless is was produced in China, and then I'd be concerned about heavy metals.)
