Riley's bio cube adventure

Well my daughter has caught the reef addiction ,at only 18 months old! We started with a freshwater planted tank in her room but seems she has lost interest in it and would rather sit in front of the sump/frag tank below my DT. The frag tank has a few fish in it for her to chase around but it's time for her own. We bought a coralife 14g bio that is going to be stuffed with lps and softies I've been saving i.e.,two types of open brain lobo , gsp, acans, hydno, green nepthea, golden maul zoa colony , ricordea Yuma, frogs spawn, anchor coral, and a few duncans, this is sounding like an instant reef with as much as im going to stuff in there but we all kniw the attention span of children, hah. As for livestock I'm kinda drawing a blank other than a pair of tank breed clowns as they are hardy, and of course a hearty CUC once they show up from the group buy. Now I've heard from a few to just ditch the bio balls ,which I've never used, now should I replace it with live rock rubble? Now also I see their is also a section for a "fuge" and you can purchase a pc light to support macro has anyone tried this.

Oh also. Since the investment has already been made on the apex system on my dt I'm thinking of linking the two systems together ,just as I know parameters can fluctuate a lot with these small systems. Posted in the wtb looking for a an eb4 or eb8 plus probes. I've been cycling rock and live sand for the past few weeks so hopefully it won't be to painful of a break in

I am in the process of setting up my son's tank. It is 24G Aquapod so just bit different scale.
Get rid of the bioballs.
I made an eggcrate platform in the back(plenty cured as I made it 7 years ago so no discussion) that I used for floss, carbon and behind it a mini fuge. That said they have the inserts now that go in the back and I am considering going that route. I had bought a single canister carbon reactor from TBAquatics but the darn MJ900 that I got to go with it was too loud for my son's room so not exactly sure what I am going to do with it.

We are following the same plan with the rest.

An idea I just thought of in the "fuge" what you guys think if I put rubble rock in one of those draw string filter socks ? Not going to bother with a protein skimmer as I heard the nano ones are a joke. Also thinking of taking the true perculas out of my 90 to put in her tank then getting a pair of black oscellaris.

It's great having a large tank to farm the corals for the nano, 3 pieces of rock a fist full of frags and their you have it instant reef. I'm hoping the tank won't give me to much trouble cycling as I've been soaking the sand and rock for weeks but as you can see their is a little algae starting on the rock. I threw a couple crabs and snails from the big tank in there to help until the order comes in from the group buy.

She went crazy when she saw it ,she's only 17 months and speaks her own language but she was pointing and talking for an hour about it. She kept climbing out of her crib to go look at it and wouldn't go to sleep last night hah. Now to add a few fish

Great...my son has been busting my chops for fish...I don't think he was impressed that I threw a few bristle worms in. Like you I am waiting for the inverts to come in. I like you idea about taking a few snails out of my tank, good idea.

Rock is still cycling so if need be ill have to throw one of my lawnmower blennys in there for a few days, might pic up a couple chromis for the tank just so she has something to chase around.
