Roasted? Toasted? Dried?

I just got back from the oriental grocer. Man there were (as you would probably expect) 100 different varieties of nori. Are Roasted, Toasted and Dried all the same thing?! They're all just seaweed. I ended up getting Roasted, I think, though I had the option for "dried". Dried didn't look green like the roasted so I opted for what I thought looked most like the seaweed selects. With 5 tangs in the house and a wrasse to boot they're eating more nori than I can stand to buy at the select price (when I just had the 1 or 2 tangs it wasn't so bad, but at a package every week'ish it has gotten crazy!)

Thanks in advance,

I believe as long as the ingredients dont have anything but algae (or seaweed) it is ok. I have the roasted kind.

The flavored kind is the stuff you can't use. Although I wonder how my tangs and angel would like some wasabe (sp?) flavored nori. lol :)

Great, Now I am in the mood for sushi!! You think our fish know once we have eaten sushi, I always wondered that. The one I use for my fish says roasted, I think as long as the ingredients says just "seaweed" you should be okay. The wasabi gets added as you roll your sushi so it should not be included in the nori, and yes, I make sushi all the time, gotta love the yellow tail.

I go for just dried. Roasted sometimes are roasted in oils..

Don't you love oriental food stores? You can also get fish eggs from there (forget the name) but the LFS I worked in fed the SEASONED ones to the tanks, and the fish loved it, and we never had problems. Personally, I go for unflavored, unseasoned, unroasted. As bland as bland gets..

Phyl, you need a large refugium.. I cut down my food bill considerably with the 75g refugium. The tangs just LOVE that grape caulerpa and I have a steady supply all the time now (even trade in 5g buckets of it for a 5g bucket of salt from time to time)...

allso its important that The Norie ... or Seaweed as we call it... is definately not seasoned.... allso one can find (like i did.. ) Krill...frozened n for about 3 bucks for three pounds.... you can find the Krill in small or larger sizes....! cw. ;)
