Ya know what? The majority of reefers turn their noses up at these things but I don't care. My IO swingarm (actually both of them) matches my lab grade yada yada Tropic Marin hydrometer again and again. No batteries. No calibrating. No calibration solution to buy. Easy to read. I'm not anti gadget. Love my hanna ph/no3/po4/alk checkers. But salinity? I'm staying with this. Bring your pitchforks, ignore me ban me whatever but the thing works weather you like it or not.
I'm so casual about the reefing at this point that I cant see dropping $140 on another Milwaukee.
I'll look into the Hanna, and though not as committed as salted to the swing arm, I might try one and put it up against a refractometer and a digital and see what happens.

But seriously. I've been using the same salt in the same bucket for years and know that If i fill to a 4g line and add 2 1/8 cup of my usual salt I'm at the high end of 1.024/low end 1.025. Been like this for years consistently, and I've checked every time I do a WC.
With this routine, my tanks have always been at low end 1.025, and I've checked multiple times a week over years.
Unsure if I even need one at this point as things have been so consistent.
Just need something to ensure things arent really out of wack.

This is the one I’m using Amazon.com . My only complaint about it, and the reason I have two, is the print on it scrubbed off. When I got my replacement I put a piece of clear packing tape over the print. Problem solved. I rinse it throughly after every use. And according to what you said in post #10, you’re not looking for pinpoint accuracy so why go through the hassle most everything else requires.
