School of Yellow Tangs - some "in theory" questions

So - I saw a post on the for sale forum and I didn't want to hijack it...figured I'd ask the question here.

Just how big of a tank is needed to consider having a school of 6 yellow tangs? I assume one has to get all the same size and all introduced at the same time (I'd hate to figure out how to QT all of them)

Also - if one were to die later on - wouldn't it be difficult to introduce a new one to the group of 5? Then if you have 5 left - would the aggression among them simply increase thereby increasing the casualties?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm thinking it's almost a no win situation...but perhaps the solution is just "buy a bigggggg tank!"?

From everything I've read, I cringe when I hear of anything more then one in any tank. I must say I don't have firsthand knowledge, but I know they are feisty buggers...I guess I would I wonder how big are you willing to go?! Billy98 might be able to assist. I believe I counted four in his tank last weekend, although I think it is safe to say a 450g tank it practically in a class of it's own. They sure looked peaceful in there, although they were very small guys.

You could do this in a 125 tank or bigger. Hopefully bigger but the 125 could work.

I've added plenty of Yellow tangs after the fact with other Yellow Tangs and don't usually see the problems you always here about. Not much different then adding any other new fish IMHO. I'd try and add them at the same time if possible and get them from a LFS that already has them together in one tank (makes it easier on you).

PS you'll want to make sure to keep Nori always in the tank and you'll want to select a good food for them as they will pick the tank clean and have to rely on you for food.

Some people have all the luck. I threw a baby thompsoni tang in with a coral beauty one time and every fish in my tank ended up dying.

Ha. A school of yellows would sure be purdy!
