Sea Hare Info.

Hello all,
Found out a little more info about sea hares from a guy on RC that also has two of them, but he has green smooth one and mine is brown and bumpy. First off, I did not realize that these guys can ink like an octopus, so I will have to stop playing with mine for fear of it inking my tank. I was wondering why it had two butts, the butt on the top of its back is the inking hole and the other one is.....you know. Hope this helps someone.
Mike.
Have a great holiday all.

Thanks for the links Sharks, good stuff. I noticed today that Doodle, thats the sea hares name, looks like something took a bite out of him but I can't unsderstand what? My starfish also looks like something bit it as well! Wonder whats going on in my tank after lights out? I will list tank inhabitants maybe someone can figure it out.
purple psudochromis
royal gramma
yellow tailed damsel
true perculas
fighting conch
sandsifting star
sea hare
purple linkia
astreas
ceriths (sp?)
small cowries
nassarius snails
huge brain
colt
toadstool
zoas
finger leather
plating pavona
condy anemone

Man, my coral collection is weak isn't it? Wish my toadstool would not take up half my tank, maybe time to share him with others.

Any ideas?
Mike.

Hmm not sure? How big are the bite marks?
I doubt from your list it is any of the fish or even the inverts. Except maybe the cowries? I thought they are nor reef safe? I will have to do some homework I have never kept one since I was told to avoid them years ago. I know they are not usually reef safe but I think they go for corals more then inverts. I will look online and post what I find.
How old is this system?
How does the water test?
Where did the rock come from?
Maybe you have a nasty hitchhiker in there???
I have kept the hares with many fish and inverts. Most of them you have listed with the exception of the cowries and damsels.
I would suggest that you watch the tank at night with a red lens on a flashlight and see if you witness any aggression going on.

And for that leather? FRAG IT! :D

Sharys, thats for the link, it was a good read. Given the size of the hole in Doodle and the size of my cowries, it looks like it would be about one nights feeding, so this a possibility. I am posting a link (if it lets me) of the exact cowrie, if it does not post it is a tolkein cowrie, I have about 5 of them. Of course they don't look like they do in the photo as there (their) mantle extends over the shell during the day.

My system has been up and running for almost 18 years, God only knows whats living in there and he aint saying! The bite marks are around 3/8 of an inch and perfectly round. Where did the rock come from? UHHHHH, I don't remember, I have had it for many years, make that many many many years. All tank params are normal, well normal for me. Say I had a nast bristle worm in there, how big do you think it would be after 18 years? Oh Boy!!!
TY
