Skimmer goin' nuts...4 days now. Any suggestions?

My skimmer goes nuts when I clean or add stuff. I added a few frags using reef epoxy (cant remember the brand) Anyway, my skimmer has been insane for the past 4/5 days. Cant get it to calm down. I just unplug it. I try it, goes nuts, I unplug it. Any ideas or directions on how to handle this.

Try raising the skimmer or lowering the water level in the sump until it calms down.

I used epoxy two months ago and i had to turn my skimmer off for almost two weeks till i took out the epoxy.

What epoxy was it?

Unfortunately, I don't know much about this particular skimmer... maybe some others can chime in.

After looking at the manual for it though, it's recommended that you keep it in 6-10 inches of water. Is the water level in your skimmer section in your sump between those? If you're closer to the 10", that might be part of the issue. If so, I'd suggest putting something under the skimmer to raise it a bit and see if that helps.

Oh, and just to clarify, when you say it's going nuts... you do mean that it's just skimming really wet right, like pumping water straight thru it? It's not crazy amounts of foam is it?

*EDIT* Looks like some others already chimed in before I could submit my post, lol.

Are you using any type of water conditioners, i.e. Kordon Amquel? Or, red slime remover? Or, red slime remover. Or, Coral Sea salt mix?

Throw a couple Valium into the tank. That should mellow her out!

I agree with others...if she can't be calmed down by tweeking her valves, raise her up.

I use a SWC and water changes and lots of new glue will contribute to the crazyness. I find running carbon clears the issue faster, or at least makes me think it goes away faster. New filter socks are the worse for me. I just open up the skimmer valve and open the drain plug back to the sump until everything settles down.

I am not using any conditioners. The only thing different is the epoxy. Ive read a ton of threads about the epoxy doin it. The height of the skimmer hasn't changed at all. So, I dont think it's the height. Though I am gonna try to lift it up in the sump a bit. BTW, it is in 9" of water in the sump.

Are you running any carbon?

the epoxy is whats making your skimmer go nutz for sure! mine has done it many times. does your skimmer have a drain line? i just let mine run its coarse removing all the crap from the epoxy. carbon helps also. mine usually goes crazy for 3-4 days then back to normal

If the recommended level is 10" max and yours is 9" id raise it up so its in 7-8" of water. This way youll have more control regardless. Also id let it run its course, pull the drain plug and let it just dump back into the sump. Then when u see it making good foam put the plug back in
