Skimmer Question

How often, if at all, do you guys clean your skimmer's pump? Yesterday I was feeding my fish so I put my system into feed mode (which turns off the skimmer as well as other equipment). I always randomly check sump to make sure all is going well. I noticed my skimmer's cup was full of clean water so I empty it. I just did a water change that day so I figured it was from that. I kept any eye on it and once the feeding timer was done I heard my skimmer turn on but no bubbles. I tried getting it going but no go. I finally took it all apart and cleaned everything (including the pump). Once put back together it working great again. Just wondering if I should clean the pump every so often?

i only take apart skimmer when it does not work. (if it ain't broken)leave it alone..

I used to take mine out about every three month's, run it in a 5 gal bucket of vinegar/water for an hour, disassemble and clean the pump/impeller/venturi, etc. I was running BP's, so this was a good schedule for me.

Yes thats a must clean all pumps every 2 to 3 months

I clean mine 2-3 times a year.
