I know a couple of people online that have used Solaris LED lighting. They seem to like it a lot. However, you do need to consider that anyone that spent thousands on a lighting systems is seldom going to come out and say how stupid they were with buying it. ;D
My take it that it is excellent lighting, and someday in 5 to 10 years, it will be a major factor in reef lighting. Today, we are still in the first generation of LED lighting and it can only get better and much less expensive.
If you are building a reef tank from scratch, then I'd say maybe, since you need to buy everything anyhow. If upgrading lighting, consider the cost of the fixture verses the cost of a similar MH fixture, electronic ballasts, bulb replacement, and additional power consumed.
I got them based on wanting to keep my elictrical bill down and the control you get. I LOVE the control. What I do NOT like is that they do not seem that bright but seem very natural. I do love that you can control it to your taste. That is a lot of fun.
I don't like that it can easily burn your SPS if you are not careful. When you get something new you have to start it as low as you can and move it up VERY VERY slowly. That part is a bit hard to do but I have made a way around it.
Reach out for Ham. He has one. I've seen it, it's pretty cool. But like Sam said, you have to play with it on some of the lowest settings until you get it right for the critters in your tank. The moon cycles Ham was showing me were awesome, though!
