Standpipe Help

Hi again - OK just to show you how new I really am to this ??? ..... How high/low should the standpipe be in relation to the overflow? I have an AGA 120 ith 2 Megaflow overflows and am using the AGA overflow kit. There is a small outcroping on top of the standpipe with a hole in the top. Is that the siphon break? If so should it be just below the top of the overflow?

Amazing - I figure out how to plumb the tank into the basement, size the pump, drill the the glass and put in a closed loop and I get stuck on a stupid thing like this!!!! Thanks in advance for your help in aswering what is probably one of the dumbest questions in NJ Reefer history!!

Lou ... wherever you want your water line to be is where you should put your over flow. The lower you go the more noise you'll get and if you go too high your tank water will be too high. There really is no correct placement other than keep it quiet and in your tank.

And yes that is the siphon break. It also helps for noise reduction, I think.

Hope that helps.

The hole on top of the standpipe is your air inlet for the drain line. This must be kept above the water lines at all times. This will help with adjusting the water level in your overflow box, if you block tis off your overflow will surge up and down and be really noisy.

The siphon break is located on the underside of the elbow that goes on top of the return pipe.

As for the proper water level, I have my standpipe set so that the air hole is about 1/4 inch above the top of the overflow box. The tank is in my livingroom so noise is a big factor. That height keeps it nice and quiet.
