Standpipe Help?

Well I final won the battle against the leaky bulkheads, now on the the next issue. I have two overflows draining into my sump. i have DIY standpipes in each overflow. the PVC pipe that drains the water into the sump are below the water line in the sump. one overflow is making a sucking sound. the water line in the overflow is right at the lip of the PVC elbow (facing downward). The other overflow has a flushing effect. the water level of the overflow rises, then drains in loud flushing sound. Any advice?

Somewhere around here is a link to DIY durso's which should help with the sound. I'll see if I can find it (if someone else doesn't beat me to it!).

i drilled bigger holes in the end cap on the top of the standpipes. i also drilled a hole on the PVC pipe just above the waterline in the sump. problem solved.
