Store owner found guilty of illegal import practices in Canada

I don't get why he was arrested in 2007 and it took them (almost) 5 years to render a conviction.

People like him infuriate me and make the rest of the hobbyists look bad.

I wonder what happened to all the livestock and rock they found.Hopefully it was donated to a state aquarium or the like.

I think that’s wishful thinking. Not sure about Canadian law, but here that would be considered evidence, and accordingly would be sitting, for the past five years, in an evidence locker, stinking up the place.

I would think pet activists would step up and not let that happen,I think they could document the evidence in other ways, like pictures etc.We have all seen and heard when they bust illegal zoos or people who have illegal reptiles the animals are usually found places to be put.Except of course the recent place where unfortunately most of the animals who were let out and roaming were shot...that was a sad situation for sure

I thought 5 years was long also. I would hope the animals were taken and given to an aquarium. The rock have just died.

When I was at seaworld behind the scenes - they told me they had holding tanks for stuff that had been seized from customs due to lack of documentation. However - they also said the BULK of the stuff is typically dying/stinky/mess. I recall him saying something about corals being seized at LAX/Los Angeles port and such.

However in this case if it was not customs and just the typical police - I'm not sure how they would handle it.
