Originally I planned to just re-use my sump from my existing tank. However, the nice folks that purchased my tank are also interested in the sump and plumbing. (I have a feeling that they will make a play for my return pump as well!)

I find myself in need of a sump. Now I can go out and pickup another 40 breeder and maybe get creative with baffling it into something resembling a trigger systems sump. This sounds like fun and fairly doable. OR I can go out and drop a few hundred on a trigger systems sump.

Do you guys have any clues about what kind of sump I should get? I want someting with a refugium built in. I plan to try miracle mud and a few other things i've never tried before with my new tank. Primarily I will be trying to do the miracle mud and some Red Dragon Algae planted in it. It should turn out fairly awesome!

I have some red dragon and would not recommend it. The plant needs in my opinion more nutrients to thrive, you will find it grows great then just crashes. I like non green algae and would recommend some other types of gracillaria. Some have a bush like form quite hardy and grow well.

I love my trigger sump! I have a 90g and went with the ruby 36. I hear good things about the elite line but don't know first hand. The craftsmanship is top notch.

I actually got CustomKing on the MR forums to build me a custom sump modeled after the Trigger Systems sump. I would have got him to do a ELITE but I did not think the extra build time and material needed to make the "extra" compartments and such for the refugium was necessary. I kind of like the regular one like you got. I have a frag tank made by him and its excellent quality and workmanship.

Hi,

I have a custom trigger sump and love it but I had them change up the compartments so that the return section was in the middle. This lets me control the intake into my refugium.

This is what it looked like in the beginning. It does not look as nice and clean anymore.002.jpg
