switching salts a problem?

i want to switch from red sea to tropic marin salt mix. Will i need to use half and half? Or could i just start making water with the tropic marin. I don't really want to put anything into shock. thanks in advance for your help.

From what I've heard is you want to change over time.

But what I think is if you're doing 10% water changes then it shouldn't matter if you use the new salt completely because it's only a 10% change.

But wait until one of the more experienced people chime in.

someone told me that i had to do like half and half and then gradually use more tropic marin but i just didnt want to kill anything because of switching salts

Personally, I think that concern is overrated. We switch between a couple of different brands of salt fairly regularly and handle it through water changes. Unless you have EXCEEDINGLY sensitve livestock in your tank I wouldn't give it a second thought. Just start using the TM to make up your water change water and eventually you'll be changed over. I doubt you'd see any adverse effects. JME, others may disagree . . .

I'm with John ... I don't see any problems as long as you're doing smaller water changes and nothing near 40% or more.
