Tangs?

Question: Have a 94 gallon tank with one Yellow Tang in it (along with other fish). I'd like to get another Tang and have seen many aquariums with multiples. Prefer a juvenille for the second.

Is there a particular type you would recommend and are there some that are considered more reef safe than others? Like the Regals, but they can grow up to 15" from what I've read and that's too big for us.

I just picked up a Tomini tang for my 70 two weeks ago. He is constantly grazing the LR and isn't really aggressive at all. Him and my tomato clowns went at it for the first couple days but all is fine now. I don't have any other tangs with him, although he was in a tank at the LFS with a kole tang and they were fine together.

They stay small at ~6 inches. I got mine from Aqua Oceans in Toms River for $50.

Here is a link to them on the LiveAquaria website.

tangs are best introduced all together at once. if you put one in and then add another later on the first one has established its territory and becomes aggressive towards the others. if you were to add another tang make sure it is a different type/shape tang. if you put a purple tang in there i'm sure there would be a lot of fighting going on. maybe a pacific blue tang. also you might consider putting a larger tang than your yellow tang. if its smaller than the yellow tang the more likely it will get picked on.

The yellow is a pretty good size these days - cause he's a pig. We got him to help with an algae problem some time ago. Then a trip to Absolutely Fish brought home a sick Psuedocromis and the darned Tang was the only survivor. :'(

So yeah, he's a toughy. I like the Atlantic Blue Tangs (or Caribbean Blues)...but you're right about the body shape. Too close to the Yellow.

i have a sailfin tang thats been i our 90 gallon for about a year i picked up a powder blue tang the other day i in put him in at night with lights out yea they went at it but that morning everything was good no problems at all

Anyone ever have trouble with Regal (Hippo) Tangs eating their zoos? Never heard that before, but read it today on the web.
