Tank leak craziness

So i came home yesterday to everyones favorite sight, a giant puddle on the floor and the sound of a dry pump. Upon rushing to check all my plumping everything look perfect and the tank is full of water minus the empty sump. After a half hour of checking everything i gave up and filled the sump and water instantly starts pouring out the top of my display and i hear a jangling in my bulkhead. I then take apart my pvc in my reef ready box and find the craziest thing in my bulkhead. I had two half inch tube worm shells clogging it. Upon inspecting my pvc i found five more still attached that i then decided needed to be removed. Ive never heard worms cause a leak image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgbefore, anyone else have a similar experience?

I have those worms, but have not clogged up my overflow (knock on wood). Get in there and pull them out or use a pair of clippers to cut the shell to kill the worm.

I’ve had tube worms…

………but I have only seen them on the outside of the 1 ½ pipe that enters my filter sock. Now they also might be up inside the 1 ½ pipe that comes down from the display, but I can see in there.

I never thought about tube worms doing that. It brings up a good point that it is good to do some nice thorough cleanings on all the pieces of equipment every now and then.
