I have been very busy the past four days. No time to work on the tanks. Today I was in the back yard all day working on the pool. So around 8 pm I come back into the house to find that the JBJ28 lights were out....temperature was over 85 degress. I have the ReefKeeper to cut the lights at 85. The 90 gallon was a little over 82 degrees. Wasn't expecting this high temperature this early. Running the AC right now to cool everything down. Check your tank temperature!

Mine was 82 last night, I dropped a soda bottle with ice water in my fugue and put a small fan on it, and it was down to 79.? by this morning. It's been there all day.

My sump is fairly enclosed. It gets very humid in there I wonder if I should cut some holes in my stand and install some computer fans to exhaust air out of there. It might make my chiller come on less.

I just use the AC....during the day to keep the house no higher than75-77. Open windows at night as the low 60s are much enjoyed.

So what's the hottest a tank can get befor total meltdown

Depends on what you have in there and the duration of the temp spike. Certain corals are much more sensitive to it, and it can affect fish. 85 is generally considered the top end of where you want to be, over that and you are getting into trouble.

That would help big time. I run the ac in my house cause I also have the dog but before I used fans my tank would get up to 81/2. I thought about a chiller but bought a crappy clip on desk fan to enhance evaporative cooling. Works like a charm. Tank stays at 78 year round.

If only I had a basement..... I'd probably move one step closer to sleeping on the couch because I'd easily take up half of it with some mega upgrade.

Just put the couch next to the tank and you would get to enjoy the tank.

i have my reef angel email me first when the tank gets to 81, then again at 82.5, then it shuts off everything except 2 vortechs if it gets above 83.5. invest in a controller people!
