Toad Stool Closed up

This toad stool has stayed closed now for over a week. Before, it allways opened in the am. I used  Deep Ocean sea Salt  for a water change for the first time. All paramiters are proper, PH, Alk, temp, ect.  Mushrooms, Buttons are all fine and open.

Any Idears?? Really nice piece, I would hate to lose it!

Greg,

I think it's normal behavior. Especially since it has that "shiny" look to it. It's probably just shedding. You can give it a blast with a turkey baster to help it along if it's having trouble shedding. I would probably just leave it alone though. I've had them close up for over a week and then come back stronger than ever

hey greg, do you supplement with iodine?  my friend's stayed closed up until we started dosing with Iodine.  Now it's twice as big and we may need to frag it soon.  It started at about 6 inches across 8 months ago, now it's about 10" in diameter

Good question, i only supplement with calcium as I check the PH, Alk and calcium.
I do not have the growth or spreading that I think I should have by now. Really good purple Coraline growth. Any suggestins for a all around supplement for the softy's? It is a mixed soft/Fish tank so I do feed mixes fish food, brine S, mussel, dry.

I've kept predominately softie tanks and havent dosed Iodine and have had serious growth on most of the leathers that I have had. If you are going to dose, make sure you test!

A few small water changes may help put back in the trace elements that you are lacking.

It looks like it is getting ready to shed that outter skin and open again. That wet look is how mine all get just before they're going to shed. I have also not dosed any iodine.

I wouldnt dose anything expet 2 part additives if need be.  The waxy look of the toadstool makes me think it is about to shed.  Increase flow in the area and be patient.  This may take a few weeks.  I wanted to also throw out there that my yellow fiji leathers close up as well everytime I do a water change.  They always open up a few days later.  Be patient leathers are very hardy.

OK good, I will wait and watch. Thats a club frag that I bought when I first started out, turned out to be very nice piece and survived all my mistakes!

Thought I recognized it! Actually that's one of ours, not the clubs. It's a terminator coral. You can't kill it. Fear not.

Merve has some good advise. I also add Lugol's to my softie tank. It say's on the lable it's good for softies. I have an outragious Ric. collection that was dime sized, 2 months later, half dollar sized. I have a club pink leather that that tripled in size since since using it. Merve, our secerets out .

OK lugol's solution ??
I do not know what it is BUT I NEED IT NOW!!! where? How? NEED IT NEED IT NEED IT!! SPEND MORE MONEY-HAVE TOO!!!

Sorry Had A Reefer moment!!!

Lot's of softy folks use Lugols, but go slow, it's potent.

Order a test kit for Iodine while you are at it.

I would also suggest changing / running carbon in your system. I agree with the majority though, it seems to be getting ready to shed.

iodine is a tough to test far. I am not sure where I got the article from but they can be highly inaccurate. If you dose Lugols you have the potential to wipe out your whole tank. That is some serious stuff. I only use Lugols when dipping corals. BI-Weekly water changes should keep your iodine levels right where the should be. Also, the green algea sheets you put in your tank for tangs also contains iodine. No need to dose Iodine imo.
