Transporting coral

Does anyone have any experience buying coral and transporting it with them on an airline flight. Can somthing like that be carried on a plane? I would have the coral for a little over 24 hrs befor I get it to my tank.

@dnov99 and @mnat have done this in the past. I believe they pack them how people ship corals and put it in their checked bags. They just leave room in their luggage.

Yes we have flown corals home before and we did it through our checked luggage. We got a Styrofoam container and packed it on our trips to MACNA and just put the corals in there. We did not have any troubles although we did get a TSA notification that they were searched. IIRC you are going to WWC so you can either ask them to ship it back (depending on how much you buy that might be worth it). Or just make sure you have something rigid enough in your bag that it won't get compressed. Let them know at WWC it is going on an airplane ride so they prep it nicely.

Do you think it will be a problem to lug them around for 30 hrs before I get them home? I will not purchase sps.

30 hours is a close call, at that point I would have wwc ship them to you when you got home. Or arrange to go before you head to the airport, it is kind of on the way.

Thanks. I guess it will have to depend on what time I go. If it's within 24 hrs I'll carry it out. Any more than that, I'll ship it. I'm not leaving from Orlando. Departing from west palm beach on Friday.

I would avoid traveling with them that long, especially since it's south Florida with the warmer temps. Just have it shipped.
