upgrading tank

Ok this might sound like a silly question but like I say there are never dumb questions just dumb people asking questions. Ok, here's my question, I am upgrading from a 30 gallon cube to a 60 gallon tank. Can I just move the live rock (approx 40 lbs) gravel, water, filter socks in sump to the new tank without fear of cycling? I only have a few fish, along with a bunch of zoo's, mushrooms, frogspawn. Thanks for your responses.

The sand would be my only fear. Sand hides some nasty stuff that gets stirred up when moved. I would use new sand, then start with all fresh RODI salt water. Let the new water circulate for a few days then once the salinity matches I would then add the rock, filters, etc. over. I would also acclimate your fish and coral for a few minutes before adding them to the new tank. I bacteria supplement would not be a bad idea either.

Huge +1 on not using the sand. You would need to rinse it and the amount of saltwater needed plus the time is probably more expensive and annoying then just adding new sand. Also the things that can get stirred up can kill all your fish and can't rally be tested for. Dr. Tims one and only is a great way to fight any mini cycle that would happen and is just a nice back up to have. It can't hurt your tank and can only help.

+2 for not reusing the old sand. Sand is relatively inexpensive compared to what could be lost reusing the old stuff.

It's a shame losing the life that's built up in the sand but only bad things will happen if you transfer the sand. Get new sand and transfer everything else. Guess I should have just given a +1 and saved a bunch of typing :)

I am in the process of upgrading to a 60 cube from a 29g cube. I bought all new sand but added a cup of my old sand sprinkled over the top.
