That is a tough call, because there are people that swear by UV, and others that find it useless and do not use it.

After having tried UV, I did not see any real benefits, and no longer use it. I say save your money.

But, you will also see many others that use UV and think the world of it, and highly recommend it.

A couple of points. You must use enough UV to kill whatever you are trying to kill. Algae in the water column isn't too hard to kill. Parasites take a lot more to kill them. Bacteria are funny. Some are easily killed, some are extremely resistant.

Make sure you install UV correctly. You usually want a rather slow flow through the unit compared to your main return. You usually need to use a T and valves to control the flow through the UV unit.
