It should work fine.. I might have my daughter paint it with some reef sake paint.. The "coral spy" looks like it has a glass bottom and in theory you don't need the glass unless you are on a glass bottom boat :)

I'm not sure the PVC pipe coupler will float unless you cut it down a bit. You might want to try a 4" drain pipe coupler - I think they're a lot less dense.

oh the reason for the glass bottom on the coral spy is to float?.. but in the video the person is holding it and i think i would hold it too due to the flow.. i could seem myself pulling my neck out following it around.. BTW i forgot to pick one up today but HD is my second home.. I'll be there tomorrow

Get a bigger, like 4" pvc coupling or just a 3" long piece of 4" pipe and buy a thin piece of plexi from the depot. Trace the circle on the plexi and cut it out. Attach it with crazy glue gel or clear silicone. Works great. Or you can just use a clear pyrex glass oven pan. Until your wife needs it ;D

Corals often look better when viewed from above. The problem is that you get light reflection and ripples in the water from pumps which distort or not allow you to view at all. With a viewing box, you cut out the ripples in the water allowing for a clear view. If you have ever floated a swimming mask on the pool surface to clearly see the bottom of the pool, it's the same thing.

Try the Plastic, disposable, food to go trays. They open like a clam shell and come in different sizes. Clear and they float. If they get dirty go get another roast beef sand to go, Bonus.

yowsers - $50 plus $10.50 shipping. The one bob/radiata posted is half that and while it may not have the bells and whistles should work.

also to add to don's comment - normal tank glass is naturally tinted green - which with the human eye we compensate but with a camera- you either need to fix the white balance - or live with it. Taking pics from above you avoid going thru the green tint. this is all not relevant if you use starphire glass or acryllic.

Great idea, especially cause they're crystal clear

Phyl, Never heard this before! More detail if you can.

And a Great excuse for another Roast Beef Sandwich!

Yeah normal glass will have a green tint. Look at the edges of your tank youll see it. Thats why starphire glass is more, its totally clear and more money. Acrylic is clear too
